Alexa on iPhone

· alexa,apple,Amazon

About two weeks ago, I wrote about Amazon’s foray back into mobile by putting Alexa on Motorola devices. Two days ago, according to news, Alexa started to roll out to iPhone users of the Amazon app.

Now, anyone with an iPhone will be able to start using the same service that’s available on the Echo.

This now extends the reach of Alexa to tens of millions of users who currently have the Amazon app installed (an estimate). It also means that the Alexa service becomes a palpable voice programming platform, akin to Google Assistant for home control, shopping, and access to Skills.

The next step is move to Android and to bubble the apps service to the OS level so that handsfree interaction can be invoked through Alexa. It also moves the service towards ubiquity. It’ll be interesting to see how Apple responds.
