The news are reporting more details on the Apple speaker:
First of all, if you’re going to make a new product, my philosophy is that it should be 10x better than what’s already on the market. This is especially true for Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaigns. That said, Apple doesn’t follow this rule. They usually make a simpler, more elegant version of what’s been on the market for awhile.
Apple might follow the same route with its own speaker. Will it ship with Skills and Actions? Nope. Will third party developers be able to build for it out of the gate? Not easily. Will it seem like the iPhone 3 in a year or two? Yup.
It’s likely that Apple will focus on really simple music and extend Siri and HomeKit for those who are diehard Apple fans. Or maybe this is all just chaff to distract from some other announcements?
